OCI (Open Catalog Interface): is used to transfer data (product and price information) from a shop system to the customer’s own ERP system. The shopping basket created by the employee is transferred to the ERP system and an order is created. This transfer does not yet trigger an order.
EDI (Electronic Data Interchange): is used for the electronic exchange of business documents (purchase orders, order confirmations, dispatch advices, invoices, etc.) and enables the automation of the entire order processing.
Combining OCI und EDI: while product and price information is transmitted from the web shop to the customer’s ERP system via OCI and the order is checked and approved in the customer’s own system, this same order can be transmitted and further processed via EDI. All relevant transaction documents are exchanged digitally between the customer’s and supplier’s ERP systems.
